PAC Deputy May Face
Sanctions For Her
Decision To Break Party
Rank
The Partido Acción
Ciudadana (PAC) is
asking PAC deputy Andrea
Morales to explain her
decision to take part in
the legislative sessions
to discuss the parallel
laws of the Tratado de
Libre Comercio (TLC) -
free trade agreement
with the United States.
Morales, earlier this
week, broke rank and
decided to take part in
the legislative
sessions, contrary to
party policy.
The Comité Ejecutivo
(executive committee) of
the party has called
Morales to the carpet to
explain her position and
support for
complementary laws that
must be passed before
the free trade agreement
can go into force by
March 1, 2008.
According to Morales,
she has not received
notification of any
charges from the party
against her, however
said she is not
discarding that she
could be facing party
sanctions.
Epsy Campbell, president
of the PAC, confirmed
that Morales will be
asked to come in to
explain her decision to
the party executives.
Asked about sanctions,
Campbell said that would
be up to the Tribunal de
Ética (party ethics
committee) who will have
to study the situation
in the event a party
member files a formal
complaint against
Morales.
