Colombia Awaits New FARC Release
Colombians began the week hopeful for the prompt release by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) of former parliamentarians Gloria Polanco, Luis Eladio Perez, and Orlando Beltran.

In statements to press, the president of the Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Luis Augusto Castro, expressed satisfaction for the insurgency"s unilaterally announced decision to release them.

The announcement, he added, shows FARC"s willingness to reach a humanitarian deal allowing the liberation of people detained by the insurgency and rebel prisoners.

Meanwhile, General Fredy Padilla, commander of the Military Forces, said the military organizations are willing to facilitate the handover of the former parliamentarians.

The top military chief pointed out authorities welcome the rebel efforts, and reiterated the public force continues its operations to achieve the detainees" release any time.

Padilla warned that they do not yet know where Orlando Beltran, Patricia Polanco, and Luis Eladio Perez would be freed, and called for the International Red Cross to play the leading role in the operation.
