Warm Farewell for Chilean Communist
Volodia Teitelboim stood out in the fight of the Chilean people, his internationalist struggle and in his solidarity with Cuba, said here Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, member of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) Secretariat in his speech Saturday.

Remirez headed the Cuban delegation to the funeral of the former secretary general of the Chilean Communist Party (PCCH) deceased Friday at 91, after he was hospitalized two weeks ago, with a serious pneumonia.

"Teitelboim was a symbol and an example of revolutionary conscience and consequence, not only for Chile, but for all the peoples," Remirez said.

Remirez referred to Teitelboim s cultural work, talked about his National Literature Award, and formed part of the guard of honor at the side of the coffin, covered with a Chilean Communist Party flag.

Cuban Ambassador to Santiago de Chile Giraldo Mazola, PCC Central Committee official Nestor Leon, and Cuban Embassy political advisor Fernando Garcia Bielsa accompanied Remirez in the guard of honor.

The last parts of the guard of honor were made by Guillermo Teillier aand Lautaro Carmona, PCCH president and secretary general respectively, and Teitelboim s relatives.

After 40 hours of the funeral, which thousands of Chileans attended, including Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and other national and foreign personalities, attendants sang revolutionary songs.

At the gate of the General Cemetery, Guillermo Teillier, Chilean Communist Party president Marina Teitelboim, daughter of Volodia, and Remirez in representation of the foreign delegations, spoke to the people.

There was also participation by popular Chilean folklore group Inti Illimani.
