Warm Farewell for
Chilean Communist
Volodia Teitelboim stood
out in the fight of the
Chilean people, his
internationalist
struggle and in his
solidarity with Cuba,
said here Fernando
Remirez de Estenoz,
member of the Cuban
Communist Party (PCC)
Secretariat in his
speech Saturday.
Remirez headed the Cuban
delegation to the
funeral of the former
secretary general of the
Chilean Communist Party
(PCCH) deceased Friday
at 91, after he was
hospitalized two weeks
ago, with a serious
pneumonia.
"Teitelboim was a symbol
and an example of
revolutionary conscience
and consequence, not
only for Chile, but for
all the peoples,"
Remirez said.
Remirez referred to
Teitelboim s cultural
work, talked about his
National Literature
Award, and formed part
of the guard of honor at
the side of the coffin,
covered with a Chilean
Communist Party flag.
Cuban Ambassador to
Santiago de Chile
Giraldo Mazola, PCC
Central Committee
official Nestor Leon,
and Cuban Embassy
political advisor
Fernando Garcia Bielsa
accompanied Remirez in
the guard of honor.
The last parts of the
guard of honor were made
by Guillermo Teillier
aand Lautaro Carmona,
PCCH president and
secretary general
respectively, and
Teitelboim s relatives.
After 40 hours of the
funeral, which thousands
of Chileans attended,
including Chilean
President Michelle
Bachelet and other
national and foreign
personalities,
attendants sang
revolutionary songs.
At the gate of the
General Cemetery,
Guillermo Teillier,
Chilean Communist Party
president Marina
Teitelboim, daughter of
Volodia, and Remirez in
representation of the
foreign delegations,
spoke to the people.
There was also
participation by popular
Chilean folklore group
Inti Illimani. |
