Police Theorize Stolen
Drugs Motive For Murder
Of Five
The execution of five
men earlier this week in
the Southern zone is
believed to be related
to a drug deal gone bad,
as agents of the
Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
tackle a crime that has
never before seen in
Costa Rica.
The five men have all
been identified as
Panamanian nationals.
OIJ agents have already
confiscated several
vehicles related to the
execution style murder,
that are believed were
used or were to be used
in the transport of a
cocaine shipment that is
being attributed to the
Eliécer Estribí - one of
the men killed - gang.
Confiscated are are
Toyota Yaris, a BMW and
blue pick up truck. The
vehicles were found in
Costa Rican territory,
in the area known as
barrio San Jorge de
Canoas, near the home of
Estribí.
Costa Rican authorities
theorize that a rival
gang was robbed by the
Estribí gang, the same
250 kilo drug haul by
authorities some three
months ago and the
executions style murder
was for vengeance.
Authorities found that
one of the men was shot
several times,
suggesting that it was
done on purpose so that
the others would talk,
which after the treason
were killed, as is
common in the drug world
with a "kill them all"
attitude.
Costa Rican and
Panamanian authorities
are working together to
find those responsible
for the murder, as the
killer or killers could
be in Panamanian
territory after
executing the murder on
the Costa Rican side of
the border.
