Cuba Celebrates Day of
Lat Am Medicine
Havana - Cuba celebrates
the Day of Latin
American Medicine with
the inauguration of a
plant to create vaccines
in the scientific pole
of this capital.
Several types of new
biological researchers,
such as the
antimeningococcic
hyperimmune vaccine and
one against thyroid
fever, will be
elaborated in the
center, associated to
Finlay Institute.
On the other hand, Delys
Reyes, member of the
National Secretariat of
Health Workers, told
media to mark the date
workshops will be
developed all around the
country and distinctions
will be awarded to
outstanding
professionals.
The national main
ceremony will take place
at Havana´s Conventions
Palace.
The Day of Latin
American Medicine is
celebrated on December
3, matching up with the
birth anniversary of Dr.
Carlos J. Finlay, born
in 1833, who discovered
that certain mosquitoes
transmit yellow fever,
disease that was endemic
in the nation at the
time.
