Arias Defends Payment of
Consulting Fees To
Friends
Costa Rican president,
Oscar Arias, yesterday
defended his action in
hiring friends and
people close to Casa
Presidencial as
consultants and
financial transactions
with the Banco
Centroamericano de
Integracion Economica (BCIE).
"They are not political
favours because own no
one. Friends they are;
one governs with friends
and not enemies. What is
strange that a
government is surrounded
by people who think the
same?", said Arias.
Arias was defending the
decision to pay
consulting fees paid
from some us$2 million
dollars by the BCIE,
paid to friends and
family members of
government officials.
The president defended
his decision by saying
that Casa Presidencial
does not have the budget
to hire good
professionals.
Arias ran into a similar
scandal 20 years ago
during his first term in
the presidential chair.
Costa Rican president, Oscar Arias, defended his action
to hire friends as consultants, saying that it is better
to govern with friends than with enemies.
