Gasoline Costs More Today
Costa Rica woke up to record gasoline prices as the latest round of increases took effect at 12:01am.

The price of a litre of regular gasoline now ˘721 colones (up from ˘704), super ˘732 and diesel ˘726.

The cost of natural gas (used in kitchens for cooking), jet fuel and kerosene also increased in cost.

The increase was approved by the Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Publicos (Aresep) last month before the drop in the price of crude oil on international markets.

The Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) - state refinery - last presented a request for a decrease of ˘2 colones for a litre of super, ˘5 for regular and ˘2 for diesel. The refinery said the rising exchange rate of the US dollar against the Colon is the reason for the small decrease in fuel prices.
