Constitutional Court
Rejects Appeal Against
Vehicular Restriction
The Sala Constitucional
(Constitutional Court)
yesterday rejected as
without merit an appeal
against the vehicular
restrictions of San José
that is in effect
weekdays between 6am and
7pm.
The justices rejected
the appeal presented by
a citizen claiming the
vehicular restriction
invalid since the Poder
Ejecutivo (government)
has not take sufficient
actions in the past
decades to improve
public transportation.
The argument made in the
filing is that most
Costa Ricans consider
public transportion by
bus useless and
obsolete.
In addition, the
argument was made that
with the vehicular
restrictions there is no
savings of time
achieved. "One cannot
afford to take one hour
or hour and a half to
move in a crammed,
uncomfortable bus and
often abused by drivers
who have not even
received courses in
human relations", said
the appeal.
Notwithstanding, the
Sala IV justices
rejected the appeal.
