Taxis Ask For 20% Increase
The line up for rate hikes is getting long at the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (ARESEP) as a host of public service provides are seeking increases in their services. One of those are taxi operators.

Taxi operators are looking for a 20% fare hike that would mean the cost of the first kilometre or less of service would jump from the current ¢420 to ¢505, a difference of ¢85 colones, and ¢75 colones for each additional kilometre, jumping from the current ¢380 to ¢455.

The leaders of the taxi guild are basing their request on higher fuel costs, higher salaries and the current increase of the dollar exchange against the colon.

The Aresep has 30 days to render a decision on the request.
