Prez Said Will Do All He Can For  Woman To Replace Him In 2010
Costa Rican president, Oscar Arias, said yesterday that he will do all that is possible so as that a woman takes over his presidential chair in 2010.

Arias made the statement while speaking to a crown in Alajuela about the appointment of Jeannina del Vecchio as the new minsitra de Seguridad Pública, adding that the criticism that has been launched against Del Vecchio is based in "machismo".

"This machismo really bothers me, it huts because I will not pause in the fight to give women more opportunities in all fields, the higher their reach, the better", said Arias.

"I will do all that I can to have a woman candidate for the presidency to take over from me. It would be the first time in Costa Rica because we are falling behind. Nicaragua already had, Chile has, as well as Argentina and Germany, and England had", said Arias.

Arias declared that the time has come for women to occupy important positions and asked that Costa Rican place their trust in Del Vecchio as she has the capacity to make important decisions.

The front runner in a possible woman candidate for the 2010 presidential elections is Laura Chinchilla.

Chinchilla is currently the country's vice-president, minister de Justicia (justice minister) and interim ministra de Seguridad until Del Vecchio takes over the post later this month.

Chinchilla has been the focus of Arias' attention in the past couple of weeks, as she has been prominent in major decision and announcements.

"she is a woman with a great vocation to public service, has demonstrated such in all her positions leadership, responsibility and a hard worker", said Arias of Chinchilla.
