Former Security Minister Berrocal Says He Will Appear Before Legislative Commission
Although Fernando Berrocal is no longer the ministro de Seguridad, he is ready and willing to appear before the Legislative Assembly to clear up his comments over ties between Costa Rican politicians and the Colombian rebel group, the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC).

Berrocal assures that he will do so for the lack of support he has received from the current administration.

Berrocal says he was removed from the security post on Sunday by president Arias to avoid, according to the government statement, politicizing the situation of links by Costa Rican politicians with the FARC.

The former minister assured to the press on Sunday that he did not resign, nor was he fired, he is just not going to be security minister anymore. The decision came following an early Sunday morning meeting at the Arias home in Rohrmoser and a day before Berrocal was to have appeared before legislators.

"In politicizing the subject, it would become a spectacle that would go no nowhere. I believe the decision by the president and mine to leave the post was correct", said Berrocal.

However, the former minister added that he will feel appear before a legislative commission if called, a commission that was approved by legislators on Monday.

Berrocal said that he has sent a note to the president of the Legislature, Francisco Antonio Pacheco, telling him that he be called to appear before the commission.

"I will give my conclusions and my points of view on the subject and will do so as an ordinary citizen. I spoke to former president, José María Figueres, who also tol me that this would be a political show and I am in agreement with him", said Berrocal.

According to Berrocal, he is not regretful of the comment she made, comments that cost him his post.
