Fire Destroys Three Houses
Once again barrio Los Ángeles on the southwest side of San José has become the scene of a major fire, this time three houses were completely destroyed that included a textile distributor, part of the cable system of a Fuerza y Luz (light and power) substation and an Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) cellular tower.

The fire broke out shortly after 9:00am Saturday, starting in the textile shop known as La Cubana, according to preliminary findings of the Bomberos (firefighters).

The concentration of chemicals and textiles on the premises caused the fire to be intense and spread rapidly to the adjoining buidlings.

Fortunately there were no injuries or fatalities reported.

Residents scurried to take out what they could before the fire consumed everything, some did, others didn't have a chance.

The damage to the ICE tower affected coverage for a 4 kilometre radius. The Fuerza y Luz was forced to cut power to the underground substation.

Some 30 firefighters were on the scene to combat the fire. And like in many cases the lack of water in the fire hydrants caused a major headache for the firefighters, as it took more than 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.
