More Security Promised For the Holiday Season
The Ministerio de Seguridad Pública, the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ)and the Policía Municipal are joining forces for the holiday season to ensure public safety and security.

At least 10.000 members of the Fuerza Pública, joined by agents of the OIJ, municipal police and private bank security, will be on hand to provide citizens a safe season.

The patrols include the units of the mounted police, motorized units and Vigilancia Aérea (air support).

The measures, according to the Seguridad Pública, is to allow the people to relax and enjoy the season without fear of being victims of crime.

Accodring to Rafael Gutiérrez, viceministro de Seguridad Pública, police cadets will also be on patrol during the season providing support to the regular units.

All the police agencies, including the Unidad de Intervención Policial (UIP), Unidad Canina, Unidad Especial de Apoyo and the Policía Turística, will have increased patrols, said Gutiérrez.

However, all the added patrols will mean nothing if the public does not heed to the advice of the police, like not going out on the streets with large sums of cash, not talking to strangers with a surprising approach and avoid walking alone in desolate areas.

Police officials also recommend not to count money in public and be accompanied while shopping or banking.
