El Salvador's FMLN Presidential Ticket
Over 70,000 Salvadorians are expected to gather at the Cuzcatlan stadium Sunday to proclaim the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front's (FMLN) presidential ticket for the March 2009 elections.

Outstanding journalist Mauricio Funes and legislator Salvador Sanchez Ceren, also known as Leonel Gonzalez, will be the front's runners for the presidency and vice presidency, respectively.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Sanchez Ceren affirmed this national assembly is very important for the Latin American reality, where democratic changes are being consolidated.

"The extreme rightwing was defeated in Nicaragua and Guatemala, and Venezuela is in the process of building a nation with the vision of the socialism of the 21st century, the deputy added.

In addition, the FMLN has achieved a major accumulation of forces and has become a political party with responsibilities at the levels of the State, municipal governments, and the Legislative Assembly.

For this reason, the population sees the front as a serious organization, with full capacity to rule the country and resolve the needs of the poorest sectors, the candidate pointed out.
