Campaign Against Drinking and Driving Being Prepared
Christmas is around the corner and so are the parties and an increase in drinking and driving.

A group made up of the media and private companies are preparing a national campaign to prevent traffic accidents.

Under the slogan "Yo conduzco responsablemente" (I drive responsibly), the campaign aims that consciousness of drivers of the serious problem the country is living through.

The campaign will kick off on December 15 and will be included in all media communications.

This year, more than 300 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents and the worst month, December, is yet to be included in the statistic.

The idea behind the campaign is ask drivers to commit themselves to driving responsibly.

Transit officials, who are pushing for tougher fines and jail sentences as part of the reforms to the traffic laws, say that that is not enough.

Costa Rica has to go through a social change and drivers leave behind the habit and not get behind the wheel if they have been drinking. This according to transit officials takes time.
