Increase in Tourist Arrivals to
Dominican Republic
Tourists´ arrival to the
Dominican Republic increased
3.45 percent in January and
February, the Central Bank
reported.
Last January and February,
664,523 tourists arrived at the
country, compared to 2006 when
641,335 people visited the DR.
According to the Tourist Flow
Report made by the Central
Bank´s National Accounting and
Economic Statistics Department,
around 819,006 residents and non
resident passengers entered the
country in that period.
The growth rate in passenger
arrivals, however, has slowed
down in the first two months of
2007, compared to the rhythm in
that same period of 2006 and the
preceding year, explained the
Bank.
The relative drop in arrivals is
mainly among tourists from the
US and Puerto Rico, fall
explained by the regulation
introduced since January that
those tourists must present
their passports when returning
to US territory.
