Tension in Ecuador Congress
Grows
Ecuadorian substitute deputies
and those of the minority bloc
are insisting on holding
congressional sessions, despite
the decision by that authority s
leader Jorge Cevallos to suspend
activities until Tuesday.
The decision was adopted on
Wednesday, after the Electoral
Supreme Tribunal (TSE) dismissed
Judge Juan Jose Ramirez, of the
15th Jury of the Guayas, for
deciding in favor of reinstating
57 legislators that were fired.
Alternate, leftwing, and
progressive parliamentarians are
trying to declare themselves in
a permanent meeting, and urged
Congress leader Jorge Cevallos
to reestablish the parliament.
Cevallos suspended the session
on Wednesday, after accepting
Ramirez decision to restitute
legislators that were dismissed.
With 28 votes by the substitute
deputies and 31 minority groups
of the Pachakutik, Roldosista,
Socialist, Democratic Leftwing,
and Democratic People s
movements, those deputies expect
to be self summoned, and adopt
several measures.
These congresspeople reproached
on Wednesday the legislature
president, and created a
commission to deal with the
issue, adducing that Cevallos
abandoned his post by
withdrawing abruptly and without
verifying if there was quorum.
Jimmy Jairala, of the Roldosista
Party said the substitute deputy
bloc wants to work, but it is
not allowed to, thus it
criticized the dismissed
parliamentarians.
