Salvadorians Appeal against
Anti-Terrorist Law
Salvadorian social organizations
lodged an appeal against the
Antiterrorist Law on Thursday to
the Supreme Court of Justice,
and request its abolition from
the Legislative Assembly for
considering it unconstitutional.
According to Maria Silvia
Guillen, director of the
Foundation for Law Studies and
its Implementation, that
regulation approved in November
2006, is a tool the government
could use against the social
movement and the civil society.
She asserted that as the
mentioned law prohibits free
meeting, the government
authorities will not allow the
population to express
inconformity with violation of
its economic, social, and
political rights.
El Salvador has become, with
that legislation, a permanent
state of siege, where any
expression against the
authorities can end up in
capture and jail, with sentences
of up to 60 years, she stated.
The Farabundo Marti National
Liberation Front, the main
opposition force in the country,
said the law is an attack on
rights.
It warned that the text does not
specifies basic issues, and
leaves very-important others
undefined, thus they could
endanger people´s life if
implemented.
