Regular Gasoline Also On the Rise
On Tuesday is submitted an application for a price increase of ¢16 colones for the price of a litre of super. Yesterday, it submitted a separate request for an increase in the price of regular gasoline, that would see the prices jump at the pump ¢15 colones per litre.

It appears that the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) - the state monopoly on gasoline products - has adopted a new strategy for increasing fuel prices, making requests on increases to the the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) - the government regulator of public prices and services - in stages, rather than in one submission,

The latest round of price increase requests are based on the Iran crisis that is shooting up the price of crude oil on world markets, according to Recope.

The Aresep has 15 days in which to decide on the request and once approved it the notice has to be published in the official government publication within five working days.

In effect, the price at the pump, for both regular and super, may change until the middle of next month.
