Guatemala Prepares for Spanish
Royalty
The upcoming visit of King Juan
Carlos I and Queen Sofia of
Spain to Guatemala is regarded
as a goodwill tour during which
the visitors will meet several
officials of the government and
the private sector.
In addition to the royalty, the
Spanish delegation will be
formed by Foreign Minister
Miguel Angel Moratinos and
Secretary of State for Latin
America Trinidad Jimenez.
In an informative press
conference on Monday, Spanish
Ambassador Juan Lopez said the
arrival of the visitors is
scheduled for Wednesday night,
and the official reception will
take place at the National
Palace of Culture; there will
also be a private meeting
between the monarchs and
Guatemalan President Oscar
Berger.
The visit will include
inauguration of the Spanish
Chamber of Commerce building, a
meeting there to analyze
collaboration projects and tours
of the colonial San Pedro de las
Huertas.
The royalty will depart Friday
from the Guatemalan Air Force
Base in the capital.
