San José Driver Licensing Office on Extended Hours
Beginning today and ending on April 3, the Departamento de Licencias en San José (San José driver license office) will be open extended hours to accommodate the expected rush ahead of the Semana Santa (Easter Week) holiday.

The office will keep its doors open until 6:00pm instead of closing at 3:30pm, the normal closing hours, said vice-minister of Trasnportes, Viviana Martín.

The vice-minister added that the extended hours are only for San José and tha the regional offices in Liberia, Limón, Pérez Zeledón, San Ramón, Puntarenas and San Carlos will open normal hours from 7:00am to 3:30pm.

Also, this year, the government announced earlier this month that the offices of the Central government will not close during Monday and Tueday of Semana Santa. The decision will keep all government offices, including the MOPT's licensing department, open the first two days of the holiday, when traditionally all government offices close at closing time on the Friday before Semana Santa and re-open on the Monday following the holiday.

The decision only affects Central government employees - ministries, departments, etc, - but does not affect the hours of the autonomous agenices like the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS), etc, but will in no doubt follow the Central government hours policy.
