Costa Rica Too Good
New Zealand
coach, Ricki Herbert, is
confident the 0-4 loss to Costa
Rica will be of benefit to New
Zealand's 2010 World Cup
campaign.
"Our ambition is to be back on
the world stage in 2009 but
before then we're going to take
a few beltings along the
way…tonight was one of them,"
Herbert said.
Costa Rica coach Hernan Medford
was delighted with his team's
win.
The All Whites were run ragged
at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa
as the Ticos dominated with two
goals from Alvaro Saborio and
one apiece from Alonso Solis and
Bryan Ruiz.
d out more!
Saborio opened the scoring after
seven minutes with a lob before
Solis made it 2-0.
Ruiz lashed home the third after
57 minutes and Saborio rounded
things off from the spot.
"I was pleased to see the level
our team performed at," said
Medford.
"We won well and we are
continuing on the right path and
what's important is that the
lads are putting what they have
been taught into practice.
"We are getting a little better
every time and although there
are some difficult challenges
ahead, I am totally satisfied
today."
