Liberación Head Assures All PLN Members Will Vote Yes on the TLC
The Tratado Libre de Comercio (TLC) - free trade agreement with the United States - continues, with a vote on the trade deal expected in the Legislative Assembly soon, the head of the Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN) says all 25 candidates of the ruling party will be voting in favour.

PLN deputy, Ofelia Taitelbaum, guarantees the vote of all PLN deputies, refuting arguments that a number of her colleagues are not sure of their support for the trade deal.

Taitelbaum told the daily Spanish language newspaper DIARIO EXTRA, during a visit to the paper, that though she will be voting in favour of the trade deal, she is concerned of the future of small and medium sized farmers and the price of medication, especially in the areas of cancer and AIDS treatments.

Notwithstanding her concerns, Taitelbaum, is for the agreement and said that only time will tell if we negotiated a good deal, if there is more on the plus side and unfortunately in negotiations not all can be in favour of one side.

Taitelbaum also touched on the subject of telecommunications, saying that perhaps the trade deal should not have included such a difficult and sensitive subject like breaking up the monopoly, witnessed by the shouts and screams of the unions of the future of the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE).

The deputy was clear that the rumours spread by the Partido Acción Cuidadana (PAC) of dissent on the vote within her party is unfounded. All 25 deputies have said that they are in favour of the TLC, but some are trying to get an advantage to their community in exchange for a yes vote and that is not surprising, because it is normal in politics.
