Retailer Gives Homemakers Credit Line
One retailer has decided that homemakers are a good source of new customers and is now extending them credit regardless if they work outside the home or not, or that they do not have independent income.

The Almacenes Gollo feels that homemakers make the decision on how money coming into the home is invested and a good source for new clients.

According to the Estudio General de Medios, in December 2006, there were 944.334 women between the ages of 25 and 54, who are homemakers and 30% of them hold a university degree and 340.000 of them are head of the family.

"Being a homemaker is not an easy job, and we at Gollo would like to prize them for their daily efforts with the family, giving them confidence, confidence that converts into financial credit, because only they know the needs of their home", said Eduardo Córdoba, marketing manager at Gollo.

Gollo is a retailer of home appliances and furnishings.

The credit known as CrediGollo will give homemakers up ¢100.000 (us$192) in credit without a co-signor. Homemakers have only to present their Cedula (identification), a current utility bill, family references, a phone number (a friend or neighbour's number will do if there is no phone in the home), must be over the age of 23 and Costa Rican nationals without any liens against them.

"It is undoubtedly an interesting option because financial credit currently in the market is geared towards homemakers. This option opens tghe possibility of access to products useful to the home without having to find a guarantee. We want to assure that the head of the house has everything, so that they can provide a better quality of life for their children and that is why we created this credit line", said Córdoba.
