Colombia offers reward for
capture of person who threatened
to kill journalist
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe
has offered a one-billion-peso
(us455.000 dollars) reward for
information leading to the
capture of the people who
threatened to murder Dario
Arizmendi, news director of
Colombian Radio Channel (Caracol).
Uribe's office said in a Sunday
statement that the president
made the offer at a speech at
the Inter-American Press
Society's National Assembly in
Cartagena, north Colombia.
The government would not permit
"terrorism" to erode the freedom
of the press in Colombia, said
the president.
Arizmendi, who presents the
morning program "Seis AM Hoy por
Hoy" and is one of the country's
top radio journalists, had left
the country because of the death
threats.
There is no information about
which group had made the
threats.
