Ortega: US Sways Human Rights Group
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega in this capital Friday accused the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (ICHR) of being a politicized entity, influenced by the US government.

"The ICHR is a politicized commission that responds to determined interests, and unfortunately, the influence of the US government has always been present," the Sandinista leader said on Thursday.

Ortega made the comment after being questioned on the organization s recent decision to declare inadmissible an accusation of discrimination and xenophobia presented by Nicaragua against Costa Rica.

"I have no doubt that the US government s influence, which has leveraged the ICHR several times, was decisive in favoring Costa Rica," stated the Nicaraguan statesman.

Ortega announced that Nicaragua will turn to other institutions to demand justice.

The Nicaraguan demand is related to a case of the death of two Nicaraguan immigrants in Costa Rica between 2005 and 2006.
