Fidel Continues to Recover Favorably
Cuban President Fidel Castro continues to recover favorably, said Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon on Thursday, adding that he has been in touch with the head of State.

"I am certain that he would be in a perfect condition to continue to assume that responsibility (as head of State)," pointed out Alarcon, in reference to the eventual reelection of the revolutionary leader in the March 2008 elections.

The president of the People´s Power National Assembly (Parliament) made brief statements to reporters at the conclusion of a parliamentary hearing on Cuba´s election system.

"I have been in touch with him, as I have said several times he continues to recover very favorably," stressed the Cuban lawmaker, who expressed optimism about the statesman´s evolution.

Alarcon added that Fidel Castro has been and is well informed and active in a series of major decisions that have been taken in this country.

He added that the election of the deputies to the National Assembly is scheduled for March 2008. Then, the Assembly will elect the members of the Council of State, including its president.

Fidel Castro, who is the president of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, underwent intestinal surgery in July 2006, after which he temporarily passed on his responsibilities in the State, the Government, the Communist Party and the Armed Forces to Army General Raul Castro.
