Venezuelan Aid to US Increases
Venezuela´s heat-fuel discount
program will benefit over
400,000 homes in 16 states of
the United States, Venezuelan
Ambassador to that country
Bernardo Alvarez reported on
Thursday.
In a press release of the
embassy, Alvarez said the amount
will double the promise made by
President Hugo Chavez in 2006.
"In Venezuela, we do not only
see our oil reserves as a raw
material, but also as treasure
to aid the others. Our help to
the US poor people is part of a
comprehensive strategy to aid
those in need," he said.
The note said Alvarez received
gratitude recently from Alaska´s
Inter-tribal Council, for the
subsidized-fuel distribution
program during the 2006-2007
winter, benefiting 4,000 homes
of 120 tribes.
The text also said that was the
reason for the diplomat to be
invited to the sled
competitions, traditional
celebrations of those
communities.
The fuel-for-heating program is
being developed through the
CITGO, in the United States, a
subsidiary of state Petroleos de
Venezuela (PDVSA).
The plan benefits low-income
families from New York,
Connecticut, Delaware, District
of Columbia, Indiana, Maine,
Maryland, Massachusetts,
Michigan, New Jersey,
Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Rhode
Island, Vermont, Virginia, and
Wisconsin.
