Costa Rican Patients in
Venezuela
A second group of Costa Rican
patients with eye diseases
arrived in Venezuela Thursday,
where they will receive free
surgical operations as part of
"Operation Miracle".
A total of 50 Costa Rican
patients will be operated on for
cataracts and other diseases at
the main hospital in San
Cristobal, capital of the
Venezuelan state of Tachira.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry
said the patients received a
pre-operational evaluation by
Venezuelan doctors before
leaving their native country.
Venezuelan Ambassador to Costa
Rica Nora Uribe told the
patients about the beginning of
Operation Miracle in Venezuela
and its international spread.
Uribe insisted on the
humanitarian character of the
program for people with low
economic resources.
The first experience with Costa
Rican patients was in May, when
a group of 86 went to Caracas
with support of Venezuelan
enterprise CVG Alunasa,
established in Puntarenas, Costa
Rica.
