Panama Seizes Cocaine Shipment
Panamanian drug authorities are
searching for four crewmembers
of a captured boat laden with 11
tons of cocaine, police sources
said on Wednesday.
Five other individuals were
arrested yesterday as part of an
operation in which 11,425
kilograms of cocaine, valued at
more than 200 million dollars,
were seized.
The boat was intercepted some
120 nautical miles southeast of
the border between Costa Rica
and Nicaragua, in the Pacific
Ocean, added the sources.
Drug Prosecutor Jose Ayu said
that an investigation is
underway.
Due to its geographic location,
Panama is used as a bridge to
traffic drugs from producing
countries to Europe and the
United States, the world s
largest market.
