Nicaragua, Honduras Rule Out
Tensions
The top military chiefs in
Nicaragua and Honduras ruled out
any tension on the common border
Wednesday, despite the
territorial dispute the two
countries are resolving at the
International Court of Justice
in The Hague.
Nicaragua favors a solution
through international agencies,
as civilized countries do at
present, said Army Chief Gen.
Omar Hallesleven when speaking
on the bilateral dispute.
Hallesleven noted that there are
no border tensions, a situation
that was verified by his
Honduran counterpart, Gen. Romeo
Vazquez, who pointed out "we
have a good working relationship
with our neighbors."
The two generals said that their
governments and armies would
comply with the decision made by
the UN international court.
Hallesleven and Vazquez are
attending the eighth Conference
on Central American Security in
Managua. The meeting is attended
by military chiefs from the
entire region, in addition to
Mexico, Colombia, the United
States and the Dominican
Republic.
The territorial dispute between
Nicaragua and Honduras is over
the maritime delimitations that
both countries claim in the
Caribbean Sea.
The trial is in its final phase.
