UN Talks on Violence Against
Women End
Commitments and agreements aimed
at ending violence against women
and girls received a new boost,
after two weeks of heated
debates and exchanges at the UN
headquarters.
On this occasion, the Commission
on the Status of Women discussed
the elimination of
discrimination and violence
against girls.
In addition to the official
delegations, more than 2,000
representatives from
non-governmental organization
and 100 girls who have been
abducted, raped and abused
during armed conflicts attended
the meeting.
That way, participants had
first-hand knowledge of what
millions of women and girls all
over the world go through.
The 51st session of the
Commission on the Status of
Women coincided with Women´s
International Day, which was
commemorated here with an
international panel and a
special session of the General
Assembly.
