Venezuelan Plant To Continue
Operating
Alunasa (CVG Aluminios
Nacionales), the manufacturing
plant that is the property of
Venezuela that had been
threatened to be shut down
leaving 400 people of work, will
continue operating in Costa
Rica, said Wednesday designated
Ambassador José Huerta Castillo.
During an interview with Costa
Rican daily "Al Día," Huerta,
presently the Venezuelan
Ambassador to Paraguay,
explained that the impending
closure of Alunasa last February
"is an overcome chapter."
"President Hugo Chávez met in
Caracas with a delegation of
workers of the company.
Our President is eager to
proceed with the operations of
this factory," Huerta said.
The plant was on the brink of
closure in mid February when the
Venezuelan president, though
saying that the impending
closure was for "technical" and
not political reasons, announced
closing the plant located in
Esparza, Puntarenas.
The plant was to be closed in
Costa Rica and moved to
Nicaragua or Panama, according
to the announcement.
It is suspected that
Chávez had decided to close the
plant in retribution for Arias'
comments on the political
situation in Costa Rica, though
he categorarily denied it.
