Panama and Transport Unions Butt Heads
The Panamanian government and public transport workers maintained their opposing positions on Monday over a controversial reform that could end with a national strike tomorrow.

The bill is scheduled for debate in the National Assembly's Transportation Committee on Tuesday and the general assembly of the National Transportation Chamber (CANATRA) approved the strike to begin simultaneously with the debates..

CANATRA president Luis Rodriguez called on the Executive to withdraw the proposal and meet with unions to jointly examine the sector s modernization and problems.

Despite the unions threat, Government and Justice Minister Olga Golcher stated that the Executive is not going to withdraw the bill, but called on teamsters to negotiate and present their proposals.
