832 KM Of Roads To be Repaired
A major part of the "red vial nacional" - national road network - will soon be pothole free, as the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi), will be focuing its attention to 852 kilometres of road that in bad to poor condition.

According to the ministra de Transportes, Karla González, the selection of the roads to be repaired is based on a investigation by the Conavi engineers. The roads to get priority attention are those in the poorest of condition and in some cases, as the ministra put it, forgotten about.

The investment in repairing the roads will be ¢2.6 billion colones (us$5 million dollars).

"The work will be mainly to resurface (pave) the roads and should be completed by the middle of this year", said González, who stressed the need to repair the roads.

González added that her ministry will demand quality materials to be used in the paving, which is spelled in the contracts signed with various construction and paving firms.

Some of the roads that in dire need of repairs are the route 241 Porvenir-Puerto Jiménez, Turrialba between La Suiza-Tres Equis and Platanillo-Bajo Pacuare, route 755 between Jesús María-Cambalache. In addition roads between Playa Naranjo and Paquera and the Pacific Cental roads of Angostura-Llanada del Cacao stretch,

Minister González said that if the work is carried correctly, the life of the work could be more than two years, which the minister added, those roads will require regular maintenance during that period.
