Central Americans Create Common
Community
El Salvador, Honduras and
Guatemala signed an agreement
Wednesday to create the
tri-national border community of
Rio Lempa, near the largest
reserve of water in Central
America.
Mayors of the three Central
American countries in nearby
municipalities said actions
performed together will foster
efficiency of the development
programs scheduled for border
zones.
Local radio reported Honduras
representative to the meeting,
Francisco Adelmo Valle, as
pointing out these
municipalities have similar
problems and solutions are
practically the same for all of
them.
As local governments, we have
seen this can bring us great
benefits in the tourist and
commercial sectors, said
Salvadoran Mayor Julian Umana.
Guatemala was represented by
Mayor Julio Lima who said one of
the purposes is to protect
forests in the zone.
In this area there are some
highly biodiverse species,
considered one of the most
valuable in Central America by
some specialists.
The founders expect to unite 45
bordering municipalities for
development and protection.
