Rican Women's Volleyball Team Swept By USA

Stalls recorded six kills, three blocks and two
ace serves as the U.S. women's national
volleyball team rolled past Costa Rica 25-14,
25-15, 25-13 on the second day of the Sixth Pan
American Cup Friday.
Team USA hiked its record to 2-0. The squad,
which is ranked second in the latest FIVB world
ratings, will challenge 2006 nemesis Dominican
Republic today at 4 p.m.
Last year, Dominican Republic won two of three
contests against the U.S., including a three-set
victory in the bronze medal match of the 2006
Pan American Cup. The Americans won the final
meeting last year, a four-game match in the FIVB
World Grand Priz on Aug. 27 in Macau.
Cynthia Barboza, Jen Joines and reserve Marcie
Hampton each recorded five kills. Setter Ah
Mow-Santos provided 20 assists to lead the U.S.
to a .294 team attack percentage.
Verania Willis and Karen Cope each recorded six
kills for Costa Rica
The U.S. roster also includes former East High
School standout Laura Tomes, a 6-foot 2-inch
middle blocker who played at the University of
Oklahoma.
