Nicaragua: Four
Presidents for Latin
American Unity
Four Latin American
presidents met in
Nicaragua in occasion of
the 28th anniversary of
the Sandinista
Revolution advocated in
their speeches for the
unity of regional
peoples.
Honduran President
Manuel Zelaya spoke
Thursday night in front
of over 300,000
Nicaraguans met at the
"Plaza de la Fe," in an
act that became an
example of overwhelming
support to the
government of President
Daniel Ortega.
"I termed important that
Central America
maintains principles of
unity against those who
want the continent with
hungry, ignoramus and
isolated," said Zelaya,
whose words were also
backed by his Panamanian
colleague Martin
Torrijos.
Venezuelan Head of State
Hugo Chavez stated that
"faced with the US
Empire's threat that
aims to keep us divided,
dominated and
impoverished, we have no
alternative than join us
to be free."
At the conclusion of the
ceremony, the Nicaraguan
president criticized the
"global capitalism" and
called for the
continent's peoples to
challenge the Empire, to
save Latin American and
Caribbean peoples,"
