Managua Cuts Work Day to Save Energy
Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega ordered a reduction of the working day in the State institutions, to reduce the negative impact of energy cuts in the country's economic and social life.

According to a decree read by the statesman Thursday, all government work places will now open from 7am to 1pm local time as of July 6.

The measure, only applied in Managua, will continue into force during the months of July and August, while exhorting other State powers and autonomous institutions to adjust labor hours to the same schedule.

These measures will also allow economic and social activities remain despite energy emergencies, stated the decree signed by Ortega, after meeting yesterday with representatives from private companies and members of his cabinet.

According to a release published by representatives from the government and private companies, adapting the State work hours will permit evaluation of the energy crisis, which in the case of Managua is expected to start this afternoon.
