Lula: Bolivia Right to
Nationalize
President Luiz Inacio Lula da
Silva declared to a Davos Forum
panel Friday that Bolivia is
perfectly within its right to
nationalize its natural
resources and Brazil should pay
a fair price for the gas it
buys.
The Brazilian president, who is
attending the annual World
Economic Forum in this Alpine
tourist center, indicated that
the same situation occurs when
Brazil demands a fair price for
its raw materials.
More than 2,400 notables, among
them 24 heads of State or
Government and 85 Economy and
Financial ministers, besides
other top administrative,
academic and union officials
have been participating in the
Forum since Wednesday.
Lula also said that the
countries participating in the
Doha Round negotiations on free
trade should reach an agreement
within three or four months,
certainly before mid-year, he
predicted.
Some 30 ministers, members of
the World Trade Organization,
will gather here Saturday
parallel to the Forum, to try to
de-stagnate these negotiations.
