MEP Modernizes, Not Using Telegrams Anymore To Notify Teachers
Overcoming the setback of having its information database stolen, the Ministerio de Educación Público (MEP) said it began yesterday the task of notifying 7.000 teachers of their back to school on February 1. This year, however, the MEP will notify the teachers by text messages to their cellular phones or email, leaving aside the old system of sending a "telegram".

In addition, the MEP said, it will have have 10 telephone operators to call the teachers who made the list that is being published on the MEP website and answer teacher queries on its 800-MEP-2007 hotline.

The MEP usually announced the list of teachers selected for the school year in the early days of January. This year, a theft of MEP computers left the ministry scrambling to rebuild the data from its back up files so as to notify teachers in time.

MEP officials will be working frantically over the next week to notify all the teachers to ensure a smooth return to classes on February 7.

"We are beating all obstacles and are aspiring that not one teacher nominated will be left without being notified for the beginning of the school year", said MEP minister, Leoanardo Garnier.
