Cuba Gives Medical Centre to
Guatemala
A second ophthalmologic centre,
with capacity to operate 40
patients daily, will be opened
in Guatemala this week, thanks
to Cuban collaboration,
including medical staff and
technical equipment.
The coordinator of this project,
Salvador Carrillo, told Prensa
Latina that the new medical
facility will have two operating
rooms with the newest
technology.
Eighteen Cuban medical experts,
including surgeons,
ophthalmologists, optometrists,
anesthesiologists, nurses, and
general doctors, who arrived in
the Guatemalan capital this
weekend, will provide service in
the new ophthalmologic centre.
The new medical facility is
located in Jalapa department,
about 55 miles from the
Guatemalan capital, and will
chiefly give free medical
service to the population of
South East Guatemala, the
poorest area of the country.
This is the second medical
centreof this type in Guatemala
since the Jose Joaquin Palma
hospital was opened in August in
the northern department of Alta
Verapaz.
