Politician Should Lead
Integration, Says Ecuadorian
President
Ecuador"s President Rafael
Correa said on Saturday that the
Latin American integration
process should be led by
politicians who have an integral
historical vision, and not by
economists.
Correa made his remarks to the
press after taking part in the
recently concluded Summit of
MERCOSUR (South Common Market),
to which his country attended as
associated member.
The Ecuadorian president
explained that the economists,
chiefly the orthodox, think that
with the offer and demand they
will solve problems, and what
they do is to cause more
problems.
Correa noted that many of the
problems in Latin American
public policies are the result
of the high rank of "pope" given
to the economists.
He clarified that Ecuador will
not request by now his entering
as full member of MERCOSUR, but
will continue being associated
member and work with different
integration groups.
