Outcry at Guatemalan Unionist Murder
Several international organizations have condemned the murder of Quetzal Harbor Workers Union leader Pedro Zamora, perpetrated three days ago in southern Guatemala.

This horrific crime recalls the darkest days of the civil conflict in Guatemala, declared Guy Ryder, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation catering to 168 million workers in 154 nations.

Zamora died from an attack by armed men a block away from his home in Iztapa; his three-year-old son, Angel Estuardo, was wounded.

Zamora was murdered in reprisal for his efforts to stop the privatization of the Quetzal Harbor, the most important in Guatemala, Ryder denounced.

In a new release Friday, the Inter-American Human Rights Commission also condemned the murder of the union leader and the serious wounds suffered by his child.
