Racsa Loses E-Mails In
Technology Upgrade
Did anyone expect the
state monopoly on internet
communications, the
Radioagrafica Costarricense S.A.,
known as Racsa to things right?
More than 350.000 users of
Racsa's email Costarricense.cr
did. And they were let down.
Last week Racsa announced
changes to improve the service
of to its email customers using
Costarricense.cr and
promised that the upgrade to its
servers would cause no problem
to the information.
However, that was not the case.
Tough it is not known the exact
number of customers affected,
Racsa has admitted to losing an
number of emails and contact
lists of its customers when it
moved the data to a new us$3.5
million system purchased from
Sun Microsystems.
A number of customers who depend
on their Costarricense.cr email
account complained to Racsa
about the loss, who is telling
its customers that the
information is not lost, it
still on the old servers and is
working to retrieve the
information and transfer it to
the new server in the shortest
time possible.
Another complaint by
Costarricense.cr customers is
the added amount of junk or
unwanted email they began to
receive once the service was
installed on the new servers.
Racsa, in a number of paid
advertisements in the local
dailies, told customers of the
need to keep copies of their
information, like contact lists,
for example, in the event of
problems. Racsa also referred to
emails being sent to all
customers providing detailed
information on the situation,
though many customers said they
never received any such email.
Costarricense.cr is a free email
service to all Costa Ricans.
