Arias Told, Care for Young
Legislative
deputy Andrea Morales of the
Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC)
urged president Oscar Arias
to urgently attend to the
situation of children and youth
in the country.
Morales proposed several
emergency projects to mitigate
the difficult environment for
children and young people in
Costa Rica, who she said, were
the national treasure.
The legislator said the work the
children do in garbage sites and
on the streets is degrading, and
some of them are killed doing
it.
Prostitution is growing rapidly,
as much as drug consumption and
this seriously affects minors.
Morales expressed satisfaction
at the news the Arias government
accepted her request to send a
bill to the Legislature banning
marriage for people less than 15
years of age.
Another proposal by Morales is
creating a National Day for
Preventing Pregnancy in
adolescents.
