Venezuela-Ecuador Sign Energy
Agreement
Presidents Hugo Chavez
(Venezuela) and Rafael Correa
(Ecuador) signed nine documents
on Tuesday in the context of an
energy agreement to be boosted
by the Venezuelan Oil Company (PDVSA)
and Petroecuador.
Foreign Relations and Energy
ministers of both nations
attended the ceremony held in
Ecuador s Carondelet Palace to
promote the exchange of
hydrocarbon derivatives during
the coming four years, and the
creation of new refineries in
Ecuador, part of the intent to
strengthen cooperation on common
issues.
Ecuador, classifying as the
fifth oil producer in South
America, intends to reduce
imports of the derivatives it
requires to supply its internal
market.
Chavez, in Quito for the
inauguration of President Rafael
Correa, ratified his willingness
to materialize the energy
project at minor cost.
Ecuador and Venezuela have
entered a new stage in bilateral
relations; it is a new stage, a
new era in an epoch change, the
Venezuelan president highlighted
after announcing the celebration
of the first joint meeting in
Quito.
Correa has said it, we are going
to give shape to our awareness,
we are all a single nation, so
referring to a Community of
Nations is the first big
mistake, we are all a single
nation which was divided into
Republics, Chavez emphasized.
