Truck Driver in Accident Prohibited From Driving For One Year
The Juzgado Penal de Guápiles ordered yesterday the driver of the tractor trailer that killed a family of four last Saturday morning to not drive for a period of a year and allowed to remain free after he appeared in before the Fiscalía de Pococí.

José Pablo Vargas Murillo, 21 years of age, has also been ordered to sign in at the court every 15 days, while the investigation into the accident continues.

Meanwhile, the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) handed in its preliminary report that said they could not find and tire marks on the road to indicate that the driver applied his brakes.

The accident occurred when a number of vehicles, including a bus, was stopped on the Route 32 highway near Quebrada González to allow a truck ahead of traffic to make a left turn.

The tractor trailer with a full load driven by Vargas slammed into the stopped vehicles, crushing the vehicle directly ahead, killing the four passengers - an entire family - and injuring 10 others in the bus and vehicles ahead.

Tránsito (traffic) officials say that Vargas has a history of traffic violations, including driving without a license and four accidents. Vargas was driving with a suspended license at the time of the accident.
