Venezuela Hopes to Link Gas with
Central America
Venezuelan authorities asserted
on Monday that if there is
political will, the
Colombian-Venezuelan gas
pipeline will become part of an
energy network interconnected in
Central America.
Energy and Oil Minister and
Petroleos de Venezuela President
Rafael Ramirez said talks with
Panama on the topic have
progressed, and a similar
process with Nicaragua is
beginning.
In his news conference, Ramirez
ratified the Venezuelan decision
to support energy development of
the southern countries to reduce
imbalance in relation to the
North.
Questioned about protests by the
Wayuu indigenous people over the
gas pipeline build up on the
Colombian side, the Venezuelan
minister said the situation,
caused by lack of definition of
the group s representation, was
already solved.
He also ratified that the
projects have all environmental
permissions for the 140-mile
work, at a cost of 335 million
dollars.
