Chavez Talks of Latin America
Resurrection
Venezuela´s President Hugo
Chavez said that there is
currently a resurrection in
Latin America, alluding to a
leftward advance in recent
elections.
"There is a resurrection in
Latin America. Peoples are
rising up, and nothing and no
one can stop unification and
liberation of our America,"
stated Chavez after receiving an
honorary law degree of a local
university on Thursday night.
The honorary title was granted
to him in 2001 by the National
Engineering University (UNI, in
Spanish), but Chavez received it
on Thursday night, on the
occasion of his presence in
Managua to attend Sandinista
Daniel Ortega s swearing-in
ceremony as president of
Nicaragua.
This higher education center
delivered Chavez the title for
being a visionary statesman who
with his vocation of serving
humanity, and particularly his
people, has stirred up and
renovated Latin American hopes.
The decree signed by UNI Rector
Aldo Urbina also highlights his
"invaluable contribution, beyond
the borders of his country, to
eradicate poverty."
Before addressing university
students and guests, Chavez,
accompanied by President Ortega,
laid a wreath at the Venezuelan
hero Simon Bolivar s statue
erected inside the UNI.
